This was a pivotal image for me. It was one of the first professional commissions that I was happy with, and as a portfolio piece has lead to many more jobs of the same sort. Looking back there are a few weaknesses that bother me, such as the posing of the hands which, now seem a bit stiff and blocky. But the rendering of the face I am still rather proud of, even though I recall many failed attempts at it. I eventually discovered the best strategy, especially for an attractive female character, is to simplify the shapes and planes as much as possible. Let the of imagination of the viewer do all the hard work!
I've actually been thinking about doing something similar, as both a means of showcasing art I admire and an effort to really study it closely. I like the way you dissected the image.
I've also been using Pinterest a lot lately. Man that's such a great tool!
Oh wow, I honestly did not expect you to reply! Thanks! Interesting to see the artist's perspective on it now as well. Thanks for taking a look, I'd be happy to read any art-dissections you'd write in the future.
The painting is great , but the design of the girl is your usual design. Your girls have the same shape of the face and the proportions are too similar. I would suggest to try and varie a bit with your girls and your designs in general !
