Green Grass Goodbye

He's off to chase his dreams. She tries not to be hurt that there is no obvious mention of her included in them.

"You'll be back, won't you?" His response isn't immediate, and there is doubt in his eyes, although his voice is all confidence. "Of course." He grins that same old grin that he's had since childhood. She is brought back for a moment to years past....they were so close, their imaginations transporting them, they were king and queen, they were each other's.

"Of course I'll be back." 

She doesn't look back when he walks away. If she had, she would've seen that he didn't either.
