One fateful day, a peasant man returned home from the fields to find his wife lying on a cold dirt floor. Thieves had come in search of coin, instead they took what the man valued most.

It has been many lonely years since the peasant farmer lost his wife. His body grows old, but his love does not age.

This breaks my heart every time I look upon it. His face and body may be old and withered, but his eyes are those of a younger man's. It is in his eyes that you can glimpse the beauty that time has stolen from him.
You can see that he is lost in memory. His chin tilts outward just a touch, still expecting a soft kiss to land there. He probably still forgets that she's gone, and falls in love with her again and again.
Such a strong face. It is hard to imagine it broken with grief. But this still, wistful remembrance suits him.
