The Grasping Sea by Wildweasel339 The Grasping Sea by Wildweasel339
I was experimenting with minimalism, but then I ruined it with a swirly mess.

Just another mistake in which I have the opportunity to learn something.

The curse of the sea is that it may never come ashore.

I think maybe the mist is just too sharp and strong. I agree that the empty version is a little TOO empty, but maybe it could be toned back a bit. The colour choices are great.

i would like to see a version without swirly things (if its a separate layer) i LOVE the colors, but im not sure why its a steamy sea? this is constructive, so i hope it doesn't hurt your feelings! it is only MY opinion. if you love it - no one else's opinion matters. did i say I love the colors?

There's really no logic to the swirly steam. I was just a bit bored with nothing but flat water. Perhaps the composition would be stronger without it.

Thanks! :)

i'd like to see a version if u have one. not that i'm worthy to critique your art since i'm just finally getting good painting myself. (i just recently acquired more time on my schedule, and i'm certain that's it.) I've been a digital artist for years with no time for anything but working D:

Here's a link to the other version: [link]

I'm beginning to think I went overboard with the swirly mist. It may be better without it. Let me know what you think.

ok here's my thoughts. you don't have to act on them, but here they are!

1. i like the swirly, however it needs something as a reason for the swirlys, like creepy tentacles of a crakken or something. but the colors in this picture dont make it creepy so i like it better without the swirly steam.

2. i love the pain one, but i have a suggestion. it could be too plain and ill tell you why. the sky. i am STILL trying to become a great sky painter and its what im currently working on. i'm terrible!! you dot even need custom brushes proves ~ReneAigner look as his skies... :thumb295147973: :thumb303472361: :thumb306879908: :thumb300563094: :thumb326765362: dear God. I aspire to be this good. He even shows a speed paint recording :thumb327568461:

i say try to make a perfect sky back there and this one is golden, if you cant yet, leave it plain until your the master of skies :)

Thanks a bunch! You made some great points. I agree, some creature would fit really nicely coming out of the water.

Yes!! That dude has some wonderful skies and clouds. Thanks for sharing. :)

I'll try to rework this when I get some time. Thanks again!

no problem. that's what this site is for. you get other people's opinions and hopefully don't take offense, and you can make your art better! i usually work in layers so i can change something if it isn't working out. i seriously need to upload my stuff! no time lately. i spent my free time playing video games this past weekend because it had been too long. :)

Now that's interesting. Is it unwise of this man over there to go fishing in that sea, or is it just me? :O
